Both domains send during the 14-day overlap, which is included with Entra. After day 14 the outgoing domain retires and Reply Relay keeps routing replies sent to it.
The problem
Without a layover, you either lose capacity or pay for it twice.
A replacement domain needs time to warm up before it can carry full volume. Until it does, you can cut over and send less, or keep the outgoing domain running along side it and payfor two sets of domains for 14 days. Domain Layover gives you the overlap, and it is included with Entra.

Replace the domain
Request the replacement in the Hypertide workflow. The new Entra domain is provisioned with DNS and authentication, typically within 4–6 hours.

Both domains send
The outgoing domain keeps sending at its usual level while the replacement warms on its normal ramp. Your capacity holds, and there is no second set of domains to pay for.

After day 14
The outgoing domain retires
The replacement has had 14 days to warm and carries the volume on its own. Reply Relay keeps routing replies sent to the retired domain into your central inbox.

Is the overlap really 14 days?
Yes. Every Entra domain replacement gets 14 days, starting when the replacement domain is provisioned.
Do I pay for both domains during the overlap?
No. The 14-day overlap is included with Hypertide Entra. That is the point: without it you would either send less while the new domain warms, or pay for a second set of domains for those 14 days.
What happens to replies sent to the outgoing domain after it retires?
Reply Relay is included with Entra, so replies sent to the retired domain keep routing to your central inbox.
Does Domain Layover apply when I move from Google to Entra?
Domain Layover applies to Entra domain replacements. Platform moves are handled by the Hypertide workflow; ask about overlap when you plan the move.
